Commodore - 64 Emulators

NameDescription
C64SThis was one of the first Commodore 64 Emulators. It is coded bySeattle Labs, and is a commercial emulator that costs $69.95. However, there are other emulatorsjust as good, if not better, that are free.
CCS64This is one of the best C64 emulators. It is a very fast emulator, and supports almost everything an actual Commodore 64 would support. To get all the features, you have to register this emulator, however, such as cartridge support and wave output.
CCS64 is shareware and registration is US$30. It's worth the cash.
Come Back 64This is one of the newest Commodore 64 emulators around. It is coded in C++, and the sourcecode is freelydistributable and is included in the binary. It features sound, is very compatible with most programs and games, and isupdated rather frequently. It's worth a download, especially to check out the source.
Dream64Dream64 is totally free, and developped just for fun. It can run most commercial games and a lot of tricky demos, by the way it is not yet as compatible as great emulators like Hoxs64 or CCS64.
Emu64Commodore 64 emulator from Germany!
Free64This emulator by Butcha is written in C, and is freeware. It emulatessound through the PC speaker, and although it doesn't support as much as other C64 emulators, such as CCS64, it may become more compatible and better in the future.
FrodoThis C64 emulator has been ported to Unix, MacOS, BeOS, AmigaOS, RiscOS, and now Windows. This emulates the Commodore 64 very well, and is being updatedall the time. Definitly an emulator to download for the hardcore C64 fan.
Hoxs64The Hoxs64 is a Commodore 64 emulator for Windows with DirectX7 or higher. It features Cycle based CPU, CIA, VIC and SID, 1541 Disk drive, Tape deck, Full screen mode, 2 Joysticks on numeric key pad and right control, and TAP PRG P00 D64 file support. Now supports joysticks and joypads!
Hyper64Hyper64 is a working proof-of-concept of an experimental C64 emulator implementation without resorting to a conventional CPU emulation, but instead utilizing a realtime dynamic recompilation engine – which disassembles, analyzes and re-assembles the 6510 machine code as native 32-bit x86 code. It further uses a fast translation code cache.
JSwing C64This is a Windows variant of JME C64.
no$c64C64 emulator for Windows and DOS
PC64Personal C64 for DOS is now Freeware, and the source has been made publiclyavailable, although the Windows Freeware version was stopped before it could be completed. It features a high compatibility rate, sound and many other features that are now available withouthaving to register it.
VB64This is a Commodore 64 emulator coded in Visual Basic 6. It's not perfect yet, but you can still play a lot of games on it!
VICE-WinVICE VICE is a program that runs on a Unix, MS-DOS, Win32, OS/2, BeOS, QNX 4.x, QNX 6.x, Amiga, Syllable or Mac OS X machine and executes programs intended for the old 8-bit computers. The current version emulates the C64, the C64DTV, the C128, the VIC20, practically all PET models, the PLUS4 and the CBM-II (aka C610/C510). An extra emulator is provided for C64 expanded with the CMD SuperCPU.
We have a few classic versions hosted here, but we recommend you grab the latest version from their website.
Win64This is one of the few Commodore 64 emulators for Windows. It was originally developed due to the author's reaction when he saw a C64 emulator being sold for a high price, and he decided he could make one for free that would serve his purposes. Unfortunately, his mind has since changed, and the complete version now costs money. It has sound, speed,as well as a high compatibility rate.

Nintendo 64 Emulators

The N64 was released in mid-1996 as Nintendo's front-runner in the original next-gen console wars. Although it was a much higher powered machine than Sony's Playstation or Sega's Saturn, the N64 always lagged behind in sales. Nintendo chose to sell the machine on the merits of its fast-loading cartridge system and the insignificant fact that it featured a 64-bit architecture - unfortunately for Nintendo, people were more impressed by high-capacity CD media, in-game movie sequences and pre-recorded soundtracks than fast loading and the size of the machine's pipeline. Developers often preferred the Playstation for their titles due to the N64's inability to provide media rich content which games such as the Final Fantasy series demanded. Although the hardware facilitated classics such as Goldeneye and the late Perfect Dark, it wasn't enough to win over the masses.
Fortunately the system is well-emulated, allowing us to play legendary games such as Zelda, Turok & Goldeneye. A fairly modern system is needed to play emulate the machine, and a 3D accelerated graphics card is an absolute must (onboard graphics won't cut the mustard here). Game ROMs are available from ripped cartridges, ranging in size (5MB-70MB).

  • Data: 4MB (500 MB/s), Cartridge (32MB), Expansion 4MB RAM
